Are you taking a long time to find what you are looking for or is your mom always bugging you to clean your messy room?

Make sure you clean up your study table every time you are done working.  Put things back where they belong and sort through the piles of stuff on your desk before going to sleep.

Bring your plate to the kitchen after meals.  Clear the table and replace the kitchen floor mat with a cleaner one.

Put your books back in their proper place at the library or at the book store.

Get rid of the clutter you have - whether it's things you don't need stacked up in your room or the unimportant things that waste your precious time.

Sort through your to-do list.  Are there things other people can help you out with or things you don't really need to do?

Get only what you need.  If you are not sure you can use it, don't get it !

You-Version 2.0 - Have a Happier Attitude


Your attitude towards yourself, people and situations sets the stage on whether you bounce back easily or find yourself in the dumps.

Surround yourself with something or someone that makes you happy no matter what!  If your new puppy always makes you smile, make sure to set aside time to play with her.  If playing woodwind instruments at musicians friend makes you forget that awful Algebra quiz which you think you failed, make it a point to practice playing them every evening.

Be thankful for the good things.  Before you sleep at night, instead of dwelling on that disagreement you had with your best friend, think of the good times you had with her and text her and tell her can you be friends again.

You-Version 2.0 - Step Outside Your Usual Circle and Make New Friends


Be open to meeting new friends anytime, anywhere! Start a conversation with the girl beside you at the doctor's clinic! Maybe she loves One Direction as much as you do!

Talk to classmates you are not that close to by observing and complimenting them (ask where she got her One Direction pencil case!) or talk about topics you have in common, like the day's assignment.

You-Version 2.0-Say "YES" to Great Chances that Come Your Way!





Try to have a number of new things that you want to try even if they seem scary or strange or so not you.

Be willing to accept opportunities, like the chance to learn to play a good cordoba ukulele at guitar center , as long as you are willing to do your best.

Actively seek out opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to you!  Sign up, ask around, audition, take risks!

Philippine Menstrual Period Myths

Growing up is tough enough.  Realizing you will have this "red thing" every month is tougher.  Menstrual myths are so big in the Philippines and since they come from old and naturally authoritative figures like Grandma, mom, the yaya, and your best friend, you will almost believe them. My grandmother actually insisted that a cousin of theirs died when she went for a swim in the river.  A best friend in high school insisted that if you swim with your period in the beach, sharks will attack you since they can smell your blood.  Here are some of those Philippine menstrual myths:

You can't take a bath during your period.

This is definitely one of those old yaya's tales that holds no truth.  For one, it is just plain gross to not wash yourself during that time of the month (or ever).  Second, soaking in a lukewarm bath or standing still under a hot shower can actually help your body relax and ease the pain of menstrual cramps.  Make sure you stay away from cold water-it can cause contractions that could lead to cramps.

Don't ever exercise or your womb will sink (whatever they mean).  Stay in bed or perish.

Doctors will have a good laugh at this because body organs just don't sink or fall.  Though it can be a hassle, your period is not a major sickness that leaves you debilitated every month.  Just because you have it doesn't mean you're sick.  You should be able to function like a normal person.  But when severe cramps and dysmennorhea do come along, give yourself some down time.

Stay out of the swimming pool (unless you want it to turn into , the Red Sea)

Ever since tampons were invented, swimming during your period has become possible without the embarrassment of leaking.  Exercising does the body good even while menstruating, so if swimming is your sport, you shouldn't let the crimson wave stop you.  Just make sure you stock up on  tampons and know how to use them properly.  Change them every three to six hours to avoid the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

And oh, there are no documented cases of a shark attacking somebody just because it is that time of the month for her. And although we sometimes do turn into totally different persons before and during menstruation (PMSing much?), don't ever use your period as an excuse to avoid taking a bath!

The Wedding Coins



I don’t know what it is with May (I have always thought June was the wedding month), but I have been to two wedding ceremonies this month.
During one of the weddings we went to, as the groom passed a bag of wedding arrhae consisting of thirteen coins to his bride, my daughter turned to me and asked me what the bag symbolizes.

I told her the giving of the bag of coins otherwise known as the wedding arrhae symbolizes how the newly-weds will help in supporting each other towards a life of proseperity.  Traditionally, thirteen coins are used which signifies Jesus and his twelve apostles.  By giving the coins to the bride, the groom is promising to provide for his new family.  By accepting the coins, the bride is expressing her love and trust to her husband.
The wedding ceremonies are beautiful, and there is nothing I wish more than a lifetime of happiness for my dear friends.
