Makeover in Spring and Summer Pink

Who can resist a great before-and-after? No woman that I know.  (Or man, for that matter.)  That’s because a good makeover is one of the hardest tricks to pull off: seeing something with new eyes, imagining what is as what could be.  It’s a leap of imagination that can pay off big, revitalizing your look, your home, your partnership, your whole life.  It’s the thrill of the new, applied to that same old, same old.  Pretty irresistible stuff.

To celebrate the Easter Season and its promise of new beginnings, why not consider making over your sloppy weekend style of plain jeans and shirt and opt for a dotted white chiffon spring dress?  This would be perfect for the warm and humid weather!

All pictures from here

As temperatures rise and the days become longer, it definitely is time to ditch your dour sartorial leanings and consider flowing Wholesale Dresses in summer’s refreshing gelato hues. These bright warm colors are such eye candy and signify the warmth, the joy and the memories of summer.

Think Pink

The warmer weather sure makes you lighten up a whole lot and “think pink.”  The beauty and allure of the different shades of pink Wholesale Clothing is all in its delivery.  It brings a certain preciousness, a new purity and elegance.  It brings a certain grace as you imagine being the only one elegant and stylish enough to strut in the streets in these dreamy numbers while humming Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” or Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or simply just a Pink song.

It floods you with memories of your Prom Night when you believed you were a princess, dancing the night away with your Prince Charming, dressed in an elegant strapless A-line ball gown.  Who would have thought Cheap Prom Dresses would make you look like a million bucks?

Simply put, soft pink brings a perfect balance and is an antidote to your jeans-and-sweatshirt rut slash tomboy looks and aggressively sexy fare.

Because You Aim to be Irresistible

To make a truly “summery” fashion statement, it is a must to have great accessories, in rainbow hues, of course.  You could consider dipping your toes in a dainty pair of pink pumps, wedges or sandals or using a rose clutch or you can consider these buckle belts in various warm hues.

Bottom line is you should know your style profile so you will know what you want.    Sometimes what you want is a fresh pretty look.  And sometimes you want to dress down.  Whatever you do and choose, everything will come together-because even the most stressful day can bring surprising flashes of beauty, understanding and grace.

Good Friday Memories

Santiago Cove/Sabangan Beach
My father was born and raised in a small, sleepy town named Santiago in Ilocos Sur, The Philippines.

It was so small everyone practically knows each other and  you are required to call every older man or woman "Uncle" or "Auntie".

During Holy Week, we leave cool Baguio City to visit my dad's hometown  to commemorate the Passion and Death of Christ.

They sure are a religious lot in this small town. They are big on traditions and rituals like singing the Pasyon (a narrative of the Passion and Death of Christ sang by the women in town) and the Procession.

We were not required to sing and join the procession.  Oh, the boys usually escape these, but my Grandma always looked up to the girls to have the religious responsibility of joining, though.

We were not allowed to make noise, eat meat, take a bath, watch TV, and cut our nails (so glad I didn't have nail arts to fix then!).  Giggling which most teenage girls always seemed to be doing was prohibited (My grandmother failed miserably in making us stop, though. She would always end up giggling with us!)!

Nobody was more miserable than my rocker cousin.  When Grandma was out on a procession, he would play some Def Leppard and Metallica CDs on my grandmother's stereo.  The old house would literally shake you would wish some form of vibration levelers were attached to the four big speakers to sort of absorb the vibrations.  He was caught by Grandma once, and he claimed he was listening to the Pasyon, but on a different beat!

I said we were prohibited to take a bath, right?  For us Baguio kids thrown in a very warm, humid place, that was pure torture. Like fishes out of water! We used to sneak out and walk to the nearby Sabangan Beach/Santiago Cove.  Oh, grandma would threaten that if we went to the beach, we will have water in our ears and we will have wounds that won't heal , but the beach is like a magnet.  It is a cove covered in creamy white sand and the water is crystal clear. You should really consider visiting it if you have an Ilocos itinerary.

We don't get to visit Santiago as much now that we were older, but I sure would love to bring my kids there soon.  I am sure they will love the Cove!

{Guest Post} How to Maintain a Positive Attitude

Sometimes, no matter how much effort you put into a situation life just happens and everything crumbles and collapses around you. There is no specific reason for it, no pattern or law that governs these things. Bad things happen and there is little we can do to stop something that spins out of control. When something bad happens and you're having a hard time coping with it there are ways to alleviate the pain. We hope these tips will be of use to you as you fight difficulties ahead of you:

Examine your troubles

Analyze the core of your troubles and see where the depression is coming from. Find out what the underlying pain is and why you feel that way. Identifying that part of you is essential in understanding your emotions and how you can subtly push them in the right direction after the event has occurred. The root of the problem must be addressed before you can move on. If that was because of a bad breakup or something similar you must come to terms with the solution taken by your or your ex, to understand the underlying currents and the reasons for what happened. Then you need to forgive yourself, finding a reason to move on and to live anew.

Don't give up

When you feel down and out, broken and beaten by life these words may sound like a true cliché, but deep down inside you know you can do this. You know and everyone telling you to get a grip already knows that things could always be immeasurably worse by far. This may not always help you in getting over things, but its a start and you deserve all the support you can get. Even though such words may mean a little at first in time you will find out and understand that your situation has opened possibilities and because of it you will come out stronger, both emotionally and mentally. This experience will serve to guide you in the coming years and you will know something others don't know.

Take care of yourself

This is probably a time in which you will feel like overeating on sweets, ice cream or downing glass after glass of hard liquor. Everyone tries to find a way to escape from emotions more or less and those who face their troubles head-on are truly rare. You can do better than that for yourself however. How? By doing something positive instead of wallowing in self-pity and depression. Pets are wonderful for soaking up all of those feelings of misery. Play with your pet, give them love and they will love you back. Cats and dogs are especially good at sensing your emotions and they will be interested in how you feel if you have a strong enough connection with them. It will certainly not solve your problems, but it will reduce the stress you feel and they will make you smile by being who they are. Make sure you eat a healthy diet and avoid junk food as this will only extend the cycle of feeling terrible. Alcohol should also be avoided in large quantities as it will not help you achieve anything.

Cut down on caffeine

Drinking too many beverages containing caffeine will boost your negative emotions chemically. Although you may feel a rush of energy at first it is usually followed by the “crashing” feeling which then opens the way for further depression. Avoid these drinks and focus on positive activities instead such as exercise, hobbies, music, seeing your friends and getting enough sleep.

Seek help

This is the last possible solution for when you feel you just can't take it anymore. Sometimes we need the emotional support of friends, family and if bad comes to worse that of a therapist. The last one should be the absolute last choice as you don't really need chemically-induced help if you can handle the pressure with the help of your loved ones.

In Love or Insane?

So you’re  head over heels in love, or at least you think you are.  You have all the symptoms! You can’t eat, you can’t sleep and you can’t seem to talk about anything but him.

But sometimes that wonderful feeling can turn borderline weird, and if not kept in check, can quickly turn into full-blown obsession.  Can’t tell the difference between the two just yet? Read up on these telltale signs to protect you from becoming that unlovable psycho-stalker guys steer clear of.

It’s LOVE if:  You get excited when you hear your phone ring, then slightly disappointed when you find out it’s not him calling.
It’s OBSESSION if:  You have a separate line and number especially for him.

It’s LOVE if:  You have him on speed dial.
It’s OBSESSION if:  You call him in the middle of the night, then hang up when he answers. You just want to hear his voice.

It’s LOVE if:  You know what his favorite kind of candy is.
It’s OBSESSION if: You pick up his discarded wrapper and keep it in your wallet so you can have a piece of him wherever you go.

It’s LOVE if: You have a song just for him.
It’s OBSESSION if:  You only have that one song on your iPOD.  And it’s on loop.

It’s LOVE if:  You already know all of his little quirks.
It’s OBSESSION if:  You try to imitate all those little quirks and make them yours, too.

It’s LOVE if:  You invite him over for dinner with your family.
It’s OBSESSION if:  He must come over every day, no excuses.

It’s LOVE if:  You have him as your phone wallpaper.
It’s OBSESSION if: You have him as your room wallpaper.

It’s LOVE if:  You text him out of the blue just to see how he is doing.
It’s OBSESSION if: You text him out of the blue to ask what he’s doing, who he’s with, where he’s going next, what time he will be home, and again, who he’s with, every ten minutes.

Beautiful Creatures

I wanted to watch “Beautiful Creatures” last Friday with a friend.  Unfortunately, it has already been pulled off the theaters. This movie has been promoted as the next magical thing, the next Twilight, but it got crushed by Bruce Willis’ “And A Good Day to Die Hard” and “Safe Haven.”

Trapped at home this weekend with a bad case of intestinal flu, I did the next best thing (which is perfectly better than doing laundry).  I read “Beautiful Creatures.”

I literally devoured the book.  It was actually written better than the books about glittering pale vampires and hard-rock-abbed werewolves (oops, my opinion).  It is about “casters” which is a new name for “witches”, featuring a fifteen-year old girl who will be “claimed” when she turns sixteen.  Most casters choose to be “light” or “dark” during the claiming.  A family curse, though, won’t leave her a choice.  She will either be light or dark.

I wanted to see the movie really bad after reading, although I have read that the big-screen version differed significantly from the novel.

Still, it looks like a visually delightful movie.  Everyone of them looks pretty J

On Dissertation and Getting Your Ph.D.

One of my high school buddies has gone the whole educational route. She is almost done with her Ph.D, but she has not done her dissertation.  I understand her plight.  I barely finished my MBA juggling a full time day job, being a wife and a mom.

She intended to put off writing her dissertation for as long as she could, but she has to finish it now.  I met her for lunch and she kept complaining on how she is going to finish it.

Dissertation writing indeed is one of the most demanding writing projects a working mom may ever have.  Making a schedule like resolving to work on it three hours a day after work takes a lot of commitment, especially when family emergencies happen (believe me, they do.  A lot.  And on those times you don’t want them to happen!).

I can’t offer advice, really, because I haven’t done any dissertation writing, but being a working mom does make you the perfect person to finish a writing project like this.  Why so? Working moms work faster and are more efficient.  They work with a goal and one purpose in mind-to finish their jobs on time, so that they can get home in time to their families

She then resolved to finish her office duties before 4 PM strikes.  At 4 PM, she conditions her mind to do some writing and likewise search at the internet for dissertation help which will help her in accomplishing her writing at a shorter time.   It is indeed a great challenge for her to accomplish her dissertation and she needs all the help she can get.  It is interesting that some sites do offer dissertation writing helpTheir staff of professional writers offers unique content  on any topic you may require, with a guarantee that your dissertation requirements and instructions will be followed to the letter.  You can also communicate with them easily, articulating every single guideline and instruction, research, revisions and proofreading to be made.  The content is one hundred percent free from plagiarism with the paper delivered before the deadline you set.

So far, she is making headway on her dissertation.  Her day job and family do whack up her schedule at times, but she is sticking to her plan to write every 4 PM every single day.  She spends a lot of time on research, too, because she does intend to submit a good, quality dissertation.  One trick she does is to break down her writing into manageable chapters.

I envy her dedication.  Maybe, one day, I would go for my PhD too, with the hope that I will be able to do my dissertation, too.

What He Thinks When You Shop

Who among you ever brought a guy along to one of your shopping sprees? Keep this in mind.  What he says and what he thinks are usually two different things!

YOU:  I think I'd like to shop today. You in?
HIM:  *pause* *looks away* mutters "Sure thing."
HE THINKS:  No, I did not just hear that. NOOO!  I need to think of an excuse! FAST! (Is that my stomach grumbling?)
TIP: Believe me.  Guys detest shopping.  Warm him up to the idea by asking him what he wants to do afterwards: watch a movie, play some ball, eat, watch TV or play a video game.  Anything that interests him.

YOU:  Hmm, what store do you think we should hit first?
HE SAYS: *looks around* There are err, lots of stores...We have a lot of choices, that's for sure.
HE THINKS: Please pick one with a couch, please pick one with a couch, please pick one with-YES, this store!

YOU: Do you think I really need a new dress?
HE SAYS:  I think you look great in what you usually wear, but it's up to you.
HE THINKS: I mean it!  Yo look great already.  Now let's do something else.  Please?  I am starving!  Oh, who am I kidding? *sighs*

YOU: Which one looks better: this one or this one?
HE SAYS: The peach one looks good on you.  It makes your face glow!
HE THINKS:  I have no idea what I just said, but I think it was something very nice because she is smiling right now.  *virtual pat on the back*
TIP: Asking more specific questions will make things a lot easier for him.  Just don't be too specific-something like "Isn't this dress so last season?" is plain gibberish to most guys.

YOU: I think I'm buying something I don't need again.
HE SAYS: *looks away*
HE THINKS:  *plays an epic video game in his head*
TIP: Skip this stage as much as possible.  He doesn't say anything because he doesn't want to start an argument.  He knows there's no safe response to this.

YOU: Do you think we forgot anything? Anything at all?
HE SAYS:  I think you mentioned something about shoes earlier.
HE THINKS: Sometimes, I hate myself for being too nice.  Here we go again.
TIP: If he looks away, pauses before responding, or gives you an unsure smile, then he's probably just being nice.  But the truth is, he is already tired and wants to call it a day.

YOU:  I'm so happy I got to score so much cute stuff today! I feel so accomplished.
HE SAYS: Yeah, you really got a lot of new things.
HE THINKS: No kidding.  I think we can fill up an entire store with all the stuff you bought.  Oh well, I still think you're adorable.  But how did I get this blister on my feet? Is it time for dinner?  I want a burger.
TIP: Don't forget to say thank you!

Ten Things All Cool Dads Know

There is that one constant guy in your life!

Boys, they come and go.

But your dad, he is always there!

Ten Things Why Your Dad Will Always Be Your First Love!

  • He loves to show the world he's super proud of how much you've grown.  But when it is just the two of you, you are still his little girl and he wants you to have only the best the world can offer.
  • He does give you a hard time for liking the guys you like.  But he's cool.  He always gives you a heads up when his "potential jerk" alert is activated.
  • He's cool about picking you up past midnight from a party you just had attended, although he does complain a lot if you are taking a long time.
  • He'll stay up with you when you're slaving over that unbreakable bridge made of barbecue sticks project that was  taking too long for you to finish.
  • He has excellent taste in music.  You keep wondering why you are suddenly strumming a '70's folk song classic (it is the first piece you played in the guitar.  He is your guitar instructor, remember?). You practically know the greats he grew up with, knew Vincent Van Gogh "suffered for his insanity" and The Eagles are not the creatures that fly (but sang a very popular song which detractors claim was about the founder of Satanism or something).  And oh, the cool bit?  He know Pitbull is not just a breed of dog.
  • He can fix any techie stitch you find yourself in-broken printer, unresponsive Net connection, stuck SIM card...The list goes on. He would even check out the flat panel tv stands for sale for your TV when you made the Honoris Damus list.
  • When you do something that gets him angry, he doesn't make a big deal out of it (like mom).  He just gives you the requisite lecture and moves on without any anger festering.
  • He leaves you alone when you lock yourself up in your room to get some quiet time from your annoying siblings.
  • He comes to your defense when your mother's being extra strict and clingy or when bullies are ganging up on you (You can't forget the sight of your dad collaring a boy of eight because he was bothering you!)
  • He doesn't try hard to be cool and young-he just is.  And that's why all your friends love him too!

Music Defines Your Mood

Teenagers practically have a soundtrack for each event in their lives.  Music plays a very important part of their lives.  I was that way before so I don’t really stress myself if I hear my teens’ music choices even if I have to hear One Direction’s songs every second that I am at home!

I recently saw pictures on Facebook of a niece’s school field trip pictures at Art Tibaldo's Media Music Animation Studio where they were able to witness first-hand the evolution of communication gadgets from the horn of an animal and  papyrus to computer gadgets.

Of course, trying out the musical instruments and musical production equipment on the studio desk was the most fun part as they tried to make music while they were being filmed and recorded. I will be bringing my son there one of these days.

I honestly haven’t outgrown this soundtrack thing.  My choice of music still perfectly matches the mood I am in.  And for this coming week, I am banking on fun music to be my soundtrack (“Today, I don’t Feel Like Doing Anything” would be perfect!).

Faces of Panagbenga 2013

Our city celebrated its 18th Panagbenga Festival  with beautiful flowers and colorful floats.
Session Road, the city's main thoroughfare, was closed to traffic on February 23 and 24 to street dancing and float parades which served as a highlight to the annual event with the theme "A Blooming Odyssey."
This year's Panagbenga will end on March 3 with a grand fireworks display in the evening at the Athletic Bowl of Burnham Park.

On High School Reunions and Amazing DJ Mixers

I haven’t attended my high school reunion but I have touched base with practically the whole class via the social networks.
Ironically, I helped a cousin prepare for her high school reunion.
And amazingly, the event exceeded her and my wildest expectations.
We were extremely stressed because the success of the event is on us.
However, as we always know, the key to any happening party is good food and lots of good  party music!
Free Digital Photos

I had the band covered and also got hold of a DJ with the best dj mixers to keep the crowd dancing on the floor for hours. The music never failed the entire senior class as they danced to the thumping beat of the awesome mixes as they were collectively transformed to partying high school seniors again! In that moment, that single night, the carefree teenager was back!
One high point was when one cool guy grabbed the microphone and started to sing Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me” from the movie “Breakfast Club! The crowd went wild!
I remember looking at those old classmates dancing the Macarena (when I specifically ordered that they shouldn’t play it lol).
Everyone has that silly smile on their faces

Detox, Boost and Burn with MySlim

Look what I got a week ago!

I have been struggling with my weight since I made my New Year's resolution to finally lose the weight I have gained during the holiday season.  And this seems to be the answer to finally jump-start my weight loss aspiration.

You’ve got two to lose and one to gain, that’s the perfect equation for a healthy and sexier body. For a long lasting and effective weight loss, you need to do three things:

  • Remove the harmful toxins from your body
  • Turn up your energy so you can move more, and
  • Burn off excess fat.
Now, with the technology that’s in MySlim, you don’t have to buy different products and brands to get the benefits of a perfect weight loss complement!

The MySlim System is a complete supplement to your weight loss regimen.

Step 1: MySlim Detox and Fat Burner Drink

Stress, the food we eat and other factors increase the amount of toxins in our body. Toxins prevent our bodies from functioning properly; losing weight is particularly difficult if you have a lot of toxins.

Not to worry, MySlim has created a delicious and refreshing drink that does these three things: detoxify, boost energy and burn fat. The science behind this sugar-free drink is in these three key ingredients: Palatinose, Carnipure and EFLA920.

MySlim is sugar-free so how can it boost energy?

The answer is in key ingredient Palatinose. It is naturally derived from sucrose and it functions by controlling the release of glucose into the blood. End result? You get stable energy levels for a longer period of time. That translates to more energy for your Zumba classes after work!

Aside from Palatinose, MySlim Detox and Fat Burner Drink also has EFLA920 and Carnipure. EFLA920 is all natural as it comes from the yerba mate or green mate leaf extract. It works two ways: increasing energy and facilitating weight loss. EFLA920 suppresses appetite, reduces resorption of fat and increases fat burn. On top of that, it also improves physical and mental performance, provides antioxidant protection and activates the metabolic process. You’re not only getting slimmer, you’re also getting that healthy, youthful glow.

By now, you probably know about L-carnitine. But did you know that the trusted L-carnitine is Carnipure? It is a high quality l-carnitine that can be found in MySlim. How exactly does Carnipure work? Simple and just the way we want it: it converts fat to usable energy. So instead of layers and layers of fat being stored in your body, Carnipure burns that fat into energy that you can use all day long. Less fat, more energy.

Next time you go out for a run, or a walk with your friends, or that yoga class you signed up for, don’t forget to bring your bottle of MySlim Detox and Fat Burner Drink for a refreshing fat burn and energy boost!

Step 2: MySlim Natural Fat Burner Complex Capsule

After detoxifying and pumping up your energy by controlling sugar levels and turning fat to energy, you are now ready for some hardcore fat burning.

MySlim Natural Fat Burner Complex comes in convenient capsule form. It has fat burning and energy boosting EFLA920 and Carnipure just like MySlim Detox and Fat Burner Drink but in more concentrated form. You get more burn in a capsule. But remember, the fewer toxins you have in your body, the better your body can burn fats. So don’t skip the detox.

What’s special in MySlim Natural Fat Burner Complex is Metaburn. It enhances and speeds up your metabolism so the energy in the food you eat do not get stored as fat but get burned as energy. Naturally slim people have fast metabolism, so we could all use an extra kick, not to mention the extra energy.

Get the perfect body that will fit any season and occasion with MySlim Detox and Fat Burner Drink and MySlim Natural Fat Burner Complex!

My thoughts:

I have only tried the drink.  I drink it when I work out and heck, I sweat like crazy haha.  And after that, I feel so energized!

Will be back next week for more of my thoughts on MySlim.
