How to Do a Dutch Flower Braid

The Dutch Flower braid is an excellent hairstyle for medium length hair, both elegant and stylish. It is a perfect choice for a night out in town, partying, romantic dates, weddings and many other events. It is capable of keeping your hair contained, especially if your job is one that requires your hair kept away from your face. This braid is fairly difficult to do so you may need some practice before you get the hang of it. It is a common misconception that Dutch braids are difficult and a lot of women prefer to visit a stylist to do it for them. In reality you don't really need to do that. The same is valid for French braids, as well.You can create one with ease, as the process is not that much different from making pigtails.




A benefit of that hairstyle is that it will protect the ends of your hair. Avoid pulling your hair back too tightly while you make the braids as this may lead to hair loss and headaches. You will look stunning even when you do this hairstyle by yourself, with the same skill a stylist would have had with a little practice. Add a few accessories to your hair such as jeweled pins or flowers into it and you will achieve the perfect results for any event. Before all of that is achieved however, you need to do the following:

·         Brush your hair well to make it as manageable as possible. This will make the next steps much easier and you won't have to suffer through tangles and worse.

·         Take a left side partition of your hair, then part a few sections of the hair below that partition. Divide those into three separate parts.

·         Take the right section of hair and move it under the middle one, then place the middle one under the right strand.

·         Next you need to bring the right strand into the middle part.

·         Take a few sections of hair from below the left strand and add it in with the left strand.

·         Bring the right strand of your hair under the middle, then the middle under the right.

·         Do the same on the other side and follow that pattern in a typical zig-zagging manner.

·         Continue the braid as you reach the end of the crown.

·         Next, pull out the left strand and you'll be able to achieve a flower look.

·         Once the braid is created, you can wrap it around in a circular pattern. Secure it with a bobby pin and you're ready to go.

Once that is complete you can decorate the braid with small flowers and more. If the event you're preparing for is a wedding, this will be a wonderful way to commemorate what is happening with beautiful white flowers. You can do the same during spring, decorating your hair with the first blossoms of the new season, being in tune with the world around you.

Blessed Sunday, everyone! I am sharing this, not because the photo is cute (but it is!), but because the quote hits home.  I have written in my personal blog how I was around this negative person for years, supporting her meanness, practically becoming her mini-me.  I finally realized that she is like a dementor.  She sucks the happiness out of me.  I am now on my way (a long way) back to positivity.  I am painfully building back the bridges that I have burned before, just because I hang out with with wrong person, but, heck, I am on my way.  

Life indeed is too short, and this is a lesson I tell my children often.  Choose your friends.

Boys seem to live in a different world.  Here are a few things you must know:

Don't ever take them shopping.

For a lot of guys, going to the mall should have a purpose: to buy a pair of socks, get some Big Mac and fries or hang out at the arcade.  Just walking around and looking at stuff, even if you do hold hands, is boring for him-especially when you don't end up buying anything!  I used to take the hubs with me shopping until he started hanging out more at the driver's lounge or at the hardware store (it is the only place in the mall, aside from the cinema and the parking area where he can survive) and calling me within ten minutes that I am in the mall, that he is going home because he needs to use the bathroom.  When this happened more than a dozen times (he must hate the mall to have diarrhea every time he is in the mall), I got the idea.

Don't expect them to multitask.

If I ask the hubby something or bug him to take me out shopping while he is reading the newspaper, he doesn't answer or will just grunt a reply.  I used to take that personally, since I thought he was totally ignoring me.  Besides, I can answer him or my kids, easily, while I am on the phone, cooking dinner or doing the laundry. But then, research does say that guys' minds aren't as good at handling more than one task at a time as a girls' minds are.  They aren't wired to multitask.

Do appreciate them.

Women crave attention.  You love it when somebody loves your smile or your new hairstyle.  Guys do, too, even if they pretend they don't.  They get satisfaction from action and accomplishment.  So instead of rolling your eyes, let them know they are great.

Your Celebrity Prom Hair Inspiration

I have a confession to make.  Because I went to a conservative "all-girl" Catholic High School run by nuns, we did not have a Prom Night.  Seriously.  A group of students tried to organize one, but the principal (who still heads the school, by the way :) ) found out and stopped the planning, literally scolding the girls who tried to stage the prom, insisting that having one is against the S.O. (Social Orientation) thrust of the school. 

I don't know if the students in my old school have Prom now. Times did change.  It is not an all-girl school anymore, but with still the same Principal, though. I have heard somewhere that they have been allowed to have a prom, but in the morning lol.

In my older daughter's school, though (U.B. Science High School), having a Prom is a part of their tradition, though they call it "Banquet".  She and her friends had a blast settling on their prom dress and their hairstyle.

  • Part your hair on one side.  Frame your face with sweet side-swept bangs. 
  • Gather your locks above your ear and pull into a high, tight ponytail. Twist your locks around the base to create a bun and pin it in place.
  • Make your bun a bit more modern by carefully slipping on a stylish headband about two inches from your hairline.  Finish with a light hairspray.

  • Try to use a shampoo and conditioner that will aid in straightening strands and fighting frizz.

  • Create volume on top by misting the roots with hairspray and teasing it with a mix-bristled brush.

  • Curl the length of the hair with a large-barreled curling iron.  Wrap a small section of your hair around the hair tie to finish.

  • Part your hair in the center.  To help your hair hold its coils, skip washing for the day and apply a smilig foam from all over your strands.
  • Starting from the ends, wrap sections around a curling iron.  Roll it in a spiral shape until you reach ear level.  Hold for about 10 seconds before releasing.
  • Loosely pin the top half back and secure it with a fancy clip.  Finish by misting strands with a shine spray.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student : Yes.

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

(The lecture theater became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, well you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

February may be the Love Month.  But it is also the time when you young girls go to the prom!  While you wait in anticipation, why don't you try to do one simple beauty task a day?  This will help you be in your way to a perfect prom night!

Seven Days to Go...

GO TO YOUR FAVORITE HAIR STYLIST

Seven days before your prom is the perfect time to have your hair or your bangs trimmed or cut.  This will make your cut look fresh on your special day, especially if your bangs got touched up a lot :).  You can also have your brows shaped and your underarm fuzz and legs waxed.

You can also ask for help from your hairstylist on finding your perfect prom hairstyle.  Show your hairstylist what prom clothes you will be wearing and maybe, she can suggest the prom hairstyle that will go with it.  


Six Days to Go...

START  OR BE CONSISTENT WITH YOUR 
SKIN ROUTINE
Stressing over Prom Night may bring on those breakouts.  Try not to overly think about prom night because this may bring unwanted zits or rashes.  Try to wash your face with a tried and tested face cleanser.  Zits do crop out at the most unfortunate time, so be on the lookout for them.  If you see one, spot-treat it immediately with a pimple cream that is proven to work, of course.  You may use a scrub on your face to score a glowing complexion, but do not scrub so hard.  Use a light moisturizer and eye-cream.

Never ever try beauty products that you have not used yet.  Even if it says it is hypo-allergenic, there is always the possibility that your skin will react.  You wouldn't want to end up going to the prom with a full fledged rash map on your face, would you?  

Five Days to Go...

DO A MAKEUP DRY RUN

A lot of your ladies are going to do a DIY.  If you will be doing your own makeup, try to practice way ahead of time.  This will help you figure out how long you need to prepare and get ready.  

Practice makes perfect.  Decide on what look you want and how much makeup you really need to get the effect you want.  Try to look for magazine or internet photos of makeup you can copy, too.  A lot have actually learned to do their makeup perfectly by just watching at youtube!

Four Days to Go...

DEEP-TREAT YOUR HAIR
Your hair should look soft and shiny of your big night.  Pamper them by going for a "Hair Reborn" treatment at your favorite salon.  

You can also DIY by pampering your locks with hair masks or conditioner which you can buy at the drug store.  After shampooing, gently squeeze out water and apply the cream on your hair.  Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap and then wrap a hot towel (I usually nuke the wet towel on the microwave.  Be careful.  It could scald you if it is too hot!).  Rinse your hair, preferably with cold water, after fifteen to thirty minutes. 


Three Days to Go...

GO FOR A BODY SCRUB

You can have radiant skin by getting rid of dead cells that can make your skin look dull and rough.  Rub a body scrub on your dry skin for around three minutes.  Rinse off.  Apply your favorite lotion immediately to lock in moisture.  

Two Days to Go...

GET YOUR NAILS DONE
Clean and pretty nails are an absolute must!  Have your nails done the day before your prom.  This will lessen the chances of you having nails that look chipped and ugly.

You are all set on your big night!  Start preparing at least three to four hours before you have to leave.  You won't want to be pressed for time and end up with uneven brows or unmatched stockings.  Also, make sure you have a powder foundation to stave off grease and makeup smudges, lip gloss, breath  mints and a small bottle of perfume.

It’s always been the same question- Why on earth am I unable to lose weight? Why is my training not good enough for quick results? Why is my stamina / body strength so low? Everybody in the world is born with the same basic physical equipments, blessed with two hands, two legs and all the other beautifully unique and outstanding features. This article will help you achieve your desire to become fit (and by fit I mean sleek and super-hot), healthy, strong and will help you lead a good lifestyle just like our beloved Olympians because we all know that “health is wealth”. 



 To begin with, you must follow these rules of Do’s and Dont’s:- 

 DO’s: 
  • DRINK A LOT OF WATER. You must be coming across this point in every single health blog, article or magazine. And you must understand that it’s there all over for a reason. Adequate water consumption can do wonders. 
  • BE ACTIVE. Your body needs it. That includes no lazing around, taking the stairs regularly, walking small distances and avoiding vehicle use, etc. (you know the drill). 
  • IMPROVE YOUR EATING HABITS. Eat less. But do not starve. Eat 7 times a day in less quantity. Yah! Sound unfamiliar? Well, try it. Might be hard at first but you’ll get used to it. 
  • PLANT FRUIT GARDENS. The best way to eat right is by consuming fruits and vegetables for your own garden as they are a way for more health and cannot be compared to the ones bought from stores. Grow your own tomatoes, sprouts and strawberries. These are highly nutritious and easy to grow. 
  • CONSUME ORGANIC FOOD. Avoid food that contains preservatives. 
  • STAMINA BUILDING is very important. Only when you have the required amount of stamina will you be able to lose excess fat and tone your body. Stamina building is the first step to a fit body and believe me, you can’t just skip to weigh lose without body strength. 
  • WORKOUT AS AND WHEN YOU CAN. Not only does it tone your body but it also gives you this keen satisfaction when you know your body is changing. 


Dont’s:- 
  • SMOKING is bad. Even if you think you cannot concentrate on work and you absolutely need to have a smoke, fight it. Take one step at a time. Reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke in a day. Remember, you need stamina for a good-looking/ healthy body. 
  • LACK OF SLEEP is extremely hazardous for your body. Make sure you get a minimum of 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night. Avoid afternoon naps. 
  • DON’T SKIP YOUR MEALS. You may not understand your body’s metabolism yet but you must not compromise with food. Don’t skip breakfast (because that would be dumb), eat lunch, tea and snacks can be consumed and a light dinner. 
  • AVOID ALCOHOL. Drinking and then wanting to stay fit is like expecting to be able to breathe under water. Avoid occasional drinking. 
  • AVOID BAD EATING HABITS. Junk food? Maybe at times but not always. Alcohol? The same story. Sodas, cool drinks, beverages more than once a week? Kiss your not-so-large ass goodbye (and be prepared to welcome the type of badonkadonks FLO Rida raps about….and trust me, not everybody can pull-off booties like those). 


For those of you who aren’t fat yet not fit and desire to have an Olympian’s type of fitness, you must understand that they motivate themselves to fitness for reasons like global awareness, exciting opportunities, fame and International recognition. So, the main thing you need is an element of motivation to get you started. Keep your goal in mind and think of it anytime you feel lazy to work out or five up on yourself. 

Indulge in: 

  1. Swimming: If you cannot swim, even better. Learn how to swim. It tones your body in unbelievable ways. And the energy you put in while you learn burns double the amount of calories than when u already know how to swim at ease. 
  2. Calorie count: Just because you work out now does not mean you can eat double the amount. Keep a calorie check and make sure you consume the right amount of calories, enough to keep you strong. 
  3. Pickle juice: Indulge in pickle juice. Many Olympians do. It prevents muscle cramps plus has all the essential nutrias such as sodium, potassium and magnesium. 
  4. Avoid coffee and any form of caffeine consumption: Do not indulge in excessive caffeine intake. Replace the habit of coffee intake with fresh fruit juices.
  5. Yoga: Yes! I know. Yoga seems lame and ineffective to a few people and if you are one of those, let me tell you a way to motivate yourself. Think of it as a way to make your body flexible. And a flexible body in the sack scores a perfect 10.

Did You Watch McGyver Every Saturday Night?

I can't really remember if his show, McGyver, was on Saturday nights, but he did make me go through the kitchen drawers (where all the junk is!  like old batteries!  We always kept wasted batteries, I still haven't figured out why!) and figure out what I could make!
